Description
In this auction we have a wonderful piece of history pertaining to a portion of what was the Northwest Territory which now is the 19th state of Indiana. Framed and Matted 17x21 with the Document approximately 12 ½ x 7 ¾, It also has what appears to be a silver commemorative coin and an 8x6 image of the president. This is a great museum or college quality land sale document signed by President JAMES MONROE to William Bower of Ohio. The document reads as follows; James Monroe, President of the United States of America, To all to whom these presents shall come greeting; Know ye, that “William Bower of Marrion County Ohio” having deposited in the General Land Office, a Certificate of the Register of the Land Office at “ Tannersville” whereby it appears that full payment has been made for “ the northwest quarter of section Eight of Township Four in range One of the appropriated land in the Military District” of the lands directed to be sold at “Tannersville” by the Act of Congress, entitled “An Act providing for Sale of the lands of the United States in the Territory north west of the Ohio (River?), and above the mouth of the Kentucky River,” and of the Acts amendatory of the same, There is granted, by the United States, unto the said “William Bower the granter” lot or section of Land above described: To have and to hold the said “Granter” lot or section of Land, with the Appurtenances, unto the said “William Bower his” heirs and assigns for ever. In testimony whereof, I have caused these letters to be made PATENT, and the Seal of the GENERAL LAND OFFICE to be hereunto affixed. Given under my hand at the city of Washington, the “Twelfth” day of “March” in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and “seventeen” and of the Independence of the United States of America the forty “first” By the President, James Monroe (Signed) Recorded Vol. “20” page “483”    (Signed) “Josiah Meigs” Commissioner of the General Land Office.   Please check the pictures, we are guessing on the map picture as to the general location of this land.
