Lindenberg and Witnesses, on the 2nd September 1828 in favour of Abraham Bosman Senior having been produced at this Office, by which it appears that the Slaves names Regina, Afriea, & Sampie, Natives of this Colony belonging to The Widow of the late Hartwich Johannes Luttigborn Magdalina du Plefsis are mortgaged as a further security for a sum of Two Thousand Guilders, due by Jacobus Johannes Luttig, Hartwichs' Son to said Bosman by bond of 19th February 1816, passed before the Notary P.C van Blommestein & Witnesses due entry is made thereof in the Registers of this Office. Rodgers (Protectorate of Slaves - Became Colonel later on ) As you can see the document is very old. The story as how it came to us is quite fascinating in itself. My father was attached to a artillery detachment during the battle of The Somme, France in WW1 After a time both he and a gunners mate entered a town recently destroyed and found clouds of papers floating around the streets He happened to collect many of these papers, one of which was this document. It had been damaged during the bombardment, but he salvage the paper and kept it with him until he passed away some 72 years later. He never showed the document to anyone except me nearer to his death. I have written to various person's involved in these types of matters. My most recent correspondence was with some world renown academics based in Cape Town South Africa. The document is entirely genuine and I would really like to have this sold to a real collector. I have endeavoured over the past 9 years to make contact with the family concerned, buy to no avail. So I am now selling this most unusual item. It's value to me is priceless, but I have decided to rid myself of most of my families so called antiquities and start a fresh. I am looking for a fair price for an object of such importance and genuine antique heritage Now over 180 years old.
